The mission of the NIPFC Continuing Medical Education Program is to support the professional development of health care professionals by providing independent, unbiased medical informatics information that is free of industry influence. The program content includes current information and unbiased reviews by delivering educational content in the form of self-study material, presented in both text and multimedia formats. The expected outcome of the CME program is that knowledge and consideration of the information will affect health care practice and ultimately result in improved patient care and outcomes. The program will strive to continually improve through periodic assessments and aims to be a leader in supporting the professional development of health care professionals by providing continuing medical education that is unbiased and free of industry influence. NIPFC Members will read and assimilate unbiased multimedia medical informatics education materials. Participants in the program have indicated their interest in this subject matter and need for information by NIPFC, the content of which provides the basis for this activity. The activity is periodically evaluated, and comments and suggestions from NIPFC members are reviewed and implemented as deemed appropriate. NIPFC is an independent nonprofit organization that provides health care professionals with unbiased medical informatics information. NIPFC is supported solely by subscription fees and accepts no advertising, grants, or donations. The questions in the NIPFC CME Activities are designed and created by the CME Planning Committee. All individuals involved in the development of this activity are required to disclose any relevant relationship(s) they, including spouse or partner, have with a commercial interest that benefits the individual in any financial amount that has occurred within the past 12 months. NIPFC requires that faculty participating in any CME activity disclose to the audience when discussing any unlabeled or investigational use of any commercial product, or device, not yet approved for use in the United States. NIPFC designates each self study activity with AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation. Certificates/statements of credit will be delivered to those who submit and pass the exam. A score of 70% or higher is required to pass the exam. Vice President of Northern Illinois Physicians for Connectivity Dr. Stasia Kahn has been practicing internal medicine since 1988. In medical school, Dr. Kahn was named a James Scholar. She currently practices and is co-founder of Fox Prairie Medial Group P.C. in St. Charles, Illinois, and is an Attending Staff Member at Central DuPage Hospital and Delnor Community Hospital. Dr. Kahn is currently participating as Physician Clinical Director for Cardio HIT II Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Grant and previously was the Physician Clinical Director for Cardio HIT Physician’s Foundation for Health Systems Excellence Grant November 2006-January 2008. With a passion to use health information • In 2004, Dr. Kahn published a guide on How to Select and Implement The Right Electronic Medical Records and Practice Management Solution For Your Practice. • Member of ASTM International CCR Subcommittee, Health Information Management Systems Society, American Medical Informatics Association, and is a fellow in the Chicago Institute of Medicine. One of 12 Medical Informaticians chosen from across the U.S. to define the Training Requirements for Applied Clinical Informatics as a Medical Specialty. She also served on the Assessing the Economics of Electronic Health Record Adoption and Successful Implementation in Physician Small Practice Settings expert panel, a sub-chapter of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. • Served on the Expert Panel on the Workforce Needs for the National Health Information Network in 2007. She was instrumental in forming the Regional Health Information Exchange Northern Illinois Physicians For Connectivity (NIPFC) and was one of the first physicians in the United States to pilot the use of the Continuity of Care Record for her patients. She is the first physician in the United States to use exchange PDF/Healthcare documents electronically with other physicians. • Lecturer in the Masters Degree program in Medical Informatics at the School of Continuing Studies Northwestern University. • Volunteer Faculty for Rush-Copley Family Medicine Residency program teaching 3rd year residents how physicians interact with an EHR in the ambulatory setting. • Participates in the Medical Informatics Committee at both Central Dupage and Delnor Community Hospital. |
